This piece was painted on location in the Carmel Mission's courtyard during the Carmel Art Festival in May 2010. I was looking for a "different" view than what artists normally choose. It was a very cool, overcast day, which meant not many shadows. I liked this view, not only because it was different, but because there were some strong contrasts between the light color of the building and the darks of the foliage and trees.
